Description

The Annularis Angelfish (Pomacanthus annularis), also known as the Blue Ring Angel, is a commanding showpiece with electric sapphire rings over a copper-gold body and flowing tail streamers. Juveniles display tighter ring patterns that broaden and glow as they mature, making this species a joy to watch over time. Expect a confident, semi-aggressive personality that thrives as the centerpiece of a large, mature display with ample rockwork, arches, and shady retreats.

Care Requirements

The Annularis Angelfish reaching around 12″ as an adult, thrives as a centerpiece in a large, mature aquarium—aim for 250+ gallons with a long footprint, open swim lanes, and plenty of established live rock forming arches and caves for grazing and security. Keep conditions stable: 76–80°F, 1.024–1.026 specific gravity, pH 8.1–8.4, alkalinity 8–11 dKH, nitrate under 20 ppm, and phosphate under 0.1 ppm, supported by strong protein skimming and periodic fresh carbon. Semi-aggressive by nature, it pairs best with robust tankmates and is not reef-safe, as it commonly nips LPS, zoanthids, and clams; other large angels should only be attempted in very large systems and added carefully.

Diet & Feeding

The Annularis Angelfish should be offered small, frequent feedings centered on angelfish formulas that include marine sponge, along with mysis, chopped shrimp and clam, spirulina, high-quality pellets, and sheets of nori several times per week; new or juvenile fish do best with 2–3 feedings daily, then at least twice daily once established.
