Description

The Black Ice Longfin Ocellaris Clownfish, *Amphiprion ocellaris*, is a captivating designer clownfish variety prized for its unique coloration and elongated fins. This striking fish features a deep black body with stark white bands, creating a dramatic contrast reminiscent of ice. The “Longfin” designation refers to the significantly extended dorsal, anal, and caudal fins, adding an elegant flow to its appearance.

A minimum aquarium size of 20 gallons is recommended for a single specimen or a pair. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding places and potential host anemones, although they can thrive without one. Like other *Amphiprion ocellaris*, they are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other reef-safe fish.

In the home aquarium, the Black Ice Longfin Ocellaris Clownfish will readily accept a varied diet. Offer high-quality marine flake food, pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, and enriched brine shrimp. Feeding small amounts multiple times a day is beneficial.

These clownfish are protandrous hermaphrodites, meaning they are born male and can transition to female. They are relatively easy to breed in captivity, with the larger, dominant fish becoming the female. There are no visual differences between males and females other than size and behavior. In a home aquarium, they typically reach a size of 3-4 inches.
