The Black Storm Clownfish, *Amphiprion ocellaris*, is a captivating and highly sought-after designer clownfish variety. This striking fish features a predominantly black body with bold, irregular white bands that create a dramatic and unique pattern, reminiscent of a storm cloud. Each individual possesses a distinct pattern, making every Black Storm Clownfish a one-of-a-kind addition to a marine aquarium.
A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended for a single Black Storm Clownfish, with larger tanks preferred for pairs or groups. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other non-aggressive marine fish. While they can host anemones, they do not require one to thrive in a home aquarium. If an anemone is provided, ensure it is compatible with *Amphiprion ocellaris*.
In the wild, *Amphiprion ocellaris* are omnivores, feeding on a mix of algae and small invertebrates. In the aquarium, they readily accept a varied diet of high-quality marine flake food, pellets, frozen foods such as mysis shrimp and brine shrimp, and occasional offerings of marine algae or spirulina. Feeding small amounts multiple times a day is beneficial.
Black Storm Clownfish typically reach a size of approximately 3 inches in captivity. Like all clownfish, they are protandrous hermaphrodites, meaning they are born male and can change to female. In a pair, the larger, more dominant fish will become the female. Breeding in captivity is possible and has been achieved by experienced aquarists. There are no readily distinguishable visual differences between males and females outside of size and behavior when paired.
