Description

The Blue Flasher Wrasse, *Paracheilinus cyaneus*, is a vibrant and active addition to the reef aquarium. This stunning wrasse is known for the male’s brilliant blue coloration and the impressive “flashing” displays they perform to attract females, where their colors intensify dramatically.

A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended for the Blue Flasher Wrasse. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other non-aggressive marine fish. Provide plenty of live rock with hiding places, as they will dart into the rockwork when startled or at night to sleep. A sand bed is not strictly necessary, but they may occasionally bury themselves. A tight-fitting lid is essential as they are known jumpers.

In the aquarium, the Blue Flasher Wrasse will readily accept a varied diet of high-quality marine flake food, pellet food, frozen mysis shrimp, and enriched brine shrimp. Offering a diverse diet will help maintain their vibrant colors and overall health. They typically reach a maximum size of around 3 inches in captivity. Originating from the Indo-Pacific region, they are considered a beginner-level fish for the marine aquarium hobby.
