Description

The Clarkii Clownfish, *Amphiprion clarkii*, is a hardy and adaptable species, making it a popular choice for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists. Its coloration is highly variable depending on geographic location, but typically features a dark brown to black body with two or three white or yellowish bands edged in black. The tail is often white or yellow.

A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended for a single Clarkii Clownfish, with larger tanks preferred for pairs or community setups. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding places and potential host anemones. While they can host a variety of anemone species, they are not dependent on one for survival in the aquarium.

The Clarkii Clownfish is an omnivore and will readily accept a varied diet. Offer a mix of high-quality marine flake and pellet foods, as well as frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood. Supplement their diet with marine algae or spirulina.

Like other clownfish, *Amphiprion clarkii* is a protandrous hermaphrodite, meaning all individuals are born male and the largest fish in a group will transition to female. Breeding in captivity is possible with a compatible pair and proper conditions. There are no readily distinguishable external differences between males and females. They typically reach a size of about 4-5 inches in the aquarium.
