The Domino Damsel, *Dascyllus trimaculatus*, is a hardy and popular choice for beginner marine aquarists. This striking fish is easily recognized by its solid black body adorned with three distinct white spots: one on the forehead and one on each flank. These spots are particularly prominent in juveniles and may fade slightly as the fish matures.
A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended for the Domino Damsel. While they are generally considered hardy, they can become territorial, especially as they grow larger. It is best to introduce them to the aquarium last and provide plenty of rockwork and hiding places to help minimize aggression. They are native to the Indo-Pacific region and are well-suited to a variety of aquarium environments.
In the aquarium, the Domino Damsel is an omnivore and will readily accept a varied diet of high-quality marine flake food, pellet food, frozen mysis shrimp, and enriched brine shrimp. Offering a diverse diet will help maintain their vibrant colors and overall health. They typically reach a maximum size of around 5 inches in captivity. Due to their potential for aggression, they are best kept with more robust tank mates or in a species-only tank.
