The Green Clown Goby, *Gobiodon atrangulatus*, is a charming and diminutive addition to the reef aquarium. Its vibrant green coloration, often with subtle darker markings, makes it a standout despite its small size. These gobies are known for their perching behavior, often found resting on coral branches or other aquarium structures.
A minimum tank size of 10 gallons is suitable for a single Green Clown Goby, with larger tanks recommended for housing multiple individuals or a pair. They appreciate a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock and coral for perching and hiding. While generally peaceful, they can be territorial towards other gobies, especially those of the same species. They are considered reef safe and will not typically bother corals or invertebrates.
In the aquarium, the Green Clown Goby will reach a maximum size of approximately 1.5 inches. They are carnivores and their diet should consist of a variety of small meaty foods. Offerings such as enriched brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and other frozen or live zooplankton are readily accepted. They may also pick at algae and detritus in the tank.
Distinguishing between male and female Green Clown Gobies can be challenging, and they are not commonly bred in captivity. They are a delightful and relatively hardy species, making them a good choice for both beginner and experienced reef aquarists looking for a small, colorful, and engaging fish.
