The Half Black Angelfish, *Centropyge vrolikii*, is a striking dwarf angelfish species native to the Indo-Pacific region. Its common name perfectly describes its appearance, featuring a distinct division with the anterior half of the body being a light grey or white, sharply contrasting with the posterior half which is a deep black. This bold coloration makes it a captivating addition to a marine aquarium.
A minimum tank size of 55 gallons is recommended for the Half Black Angelfish. They are considered to have an intermediate care level, making them suitable for aquarists with some experience. While generally peaceful, like many angelfish, they can be prone to nipping at stony and soft corals, so they are best kept in a FOWLR (Fish Only With Live Rock) aquarium or a reef tank with caution and careful observation.
In the aquarium, the Half Black Angelfish will accept a varied diet. Offer a mix of high-quality marine flake and pellet foods, as well as frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and angelfish-specific preparations containing spirulina and marine algae. Providing a diverse diet is crucial for their health and vibrant coloration. They typically reach a maximum size of around 4 inches in captivity.
