Description

The Hooded Fairy Wrasse, *Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus*, is a stunning and relatively deep-dwelling species of fairy wrasse found throughout the Indo-Pacific. This captivating fish is known for the vibrant coloration of the males, which typically display a striking “hood” of color on their head and anterior body, often in shades of blue, purple, or red, contrasting with the rest of their body. Females and juveniles are generally more subdued in coloration.

A minimum tank size of 75 gallons is recommended for the Hooded Fairy Wrasse to provide ample swimming space and a stable environment. They are considered to have an intermediate care level, requiring good water quality and a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. They are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other non-aggressive marine fish.

In the aquarium, the Hooded Fairy Wrasse will readily accept a varied diet of high-quality marine flake food, pellet food, frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and other meaty foods. Offering a diverse diet will help maintain their vibrant colors and overall health. They are active swimmers and will spend their day exploring the aquarium. Like other fairy wrasses, they are known for their elaborate courtship displays.
