Description

The Koi Fairy Wrasse is a rare and eye-catching addition to any reef tank, known for its unique coloration that mimics the patterns of koi fish. With a primarily white body accented by pink and red markings across the upper half and dorsal fin, this wrasse stands out in both movement and appearance.

Growing up to 5 inches, the Koi Fairy Wrasse thrives in larger, established marine aquariums—ideally 90 gallons or more. Like many wrasses, it’s a skilled jumper, so a secure, tight-fitting lid is essential to prevent escape.

Peaceful by nature, this species gets along well with other reef-safe fish and won’t harm corals or invertebrates. However, males may show aggression toward one another, so it’s best to keep a single male with multiple females or maintain an all-female group. In the absence of a dominant male, the most dominant female will transition into a male over time.

A carnivore by diet, the Koi Fairy Wrasse benefits from a variety of meaty marine foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feedings will help maintain its health and vibrant coloration.
