The Koran Angelfish, also known as the Semicircle Angelfish, is a striking and popular large angelfish species. Juveniles display a dramatic pattern of black with white and blue curved lines, resembling a fingerprint or a semicircle (hence the name). As they mature, this pattern transforms into a beautiful blue-grey body with yellow spots and a yellow tail.
A minimum of a 180 gallon tank is recommended for a single adult Koran Angelfish due to their potential size and active nature. The tank should include ample live rock for grazing and hiding places. While some individuals may be reef safe, they are generally considered not suitable for reef aquariums as they are prone to nip at stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles.
There are no readily distinguishable differences in color between male and female Koran Angelfish. They are hermaphroditic, and breeding in an aquarium is very difficult. The Koran Angelfish requires a varied diet including Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods. They can grow up to 15 inches in captivity.
