Description

The LaBout’s Fairy Wrasse, *Cirrhilabrus laboutei*, is a vibrant and active addition to the reef aquarium. Hailing from the Indo-Pacific region, this species is known for its stunning coloration, which can vary depending on the individual and its mood, often displaying shades of red, orange, yellow, and purple. Males typically exhibit more intense and elaborate finnage, especially during courtship displays.

A minimum tank size of 75 gallons is recommended to provide ample swimming space for this active wrasse. They are considered an intermediate level fish, requiring stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. A sand bed is also beneficial as they will often bury themselves at night or when startled.

The LaBout’s Fairy Wrasse is generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other non-aggressive marine fish. They are reef-safe and will not harm corals or invertebrates. Their diet should consist of a variety of high-quality marine foods, including frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Offering multiple small feedings throughout the day is recommended. They typically reach a maximum size of around 4-5 inches in captivity.
