The Longfin Mocha Storm Clownfish, *Amphiprion ocellaris*, is a captivating designer clownfish variety prized for its unique coloration and exaggerated finnage. This striking fish displays a rich, chocolatey brown base color accented by bold white bands, creating a “mocha storm” pattern. Its most distinguishing feature is the significantly elongated fins, giving it a graceful and flowing appearance in the water.
A minimum aquarium size of 20 gallons is recommended for a single Longfin Mocha Storm Clownfish, with larger tanks preferred for pairs or groups. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding places and potential host anemones, although they can thrive without one. They are generally peaceful and make excellent additions to a community reef aquarium.
Like other *Amphiprion ocellaris*, the Longfin Mocha Storm Clownfish is an omnivore. Their diet should consist of a variety of high-quality marine flake and pellet foods, as well as frozen foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped seafood. Feeding small amounts multiple times a day is beneficial.
In a home aquarium, the Longfin Mocha Storm Clownfish typically reaches a size of 3 to 4 inches. They are protandrous hermaphrodites, meaning they are born male and can change to female. Breeding in captivity is possible and often successful with a compatible pair. There are no readily apparent visual differences between males and females, though the dominant fish in a pair will become the female and be larger.
