Description

The McCosker Flasher Wrasse, *Paracheilinus mccoskeri*, is a vibrant and active addition to the marine aquarium, known for the male’s stunning “flashing” displays. During courtship or territorial disputes, males will rapidly intensify their colors and erect their fins, creating a breathtaking spectacle of iridescent blues, reds, and yellows. This species is relatively small and peaceful, making it suitable for a variety of reef tank setups.

A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended for the McCosker Flasher Wrasse. They are best kept in tanks with plenty of live rock and open swimming space. While generally peaceful, males can be territorial towards other male flasher wrasses, so it’s best to keep only one male per tank unless the aquarium is very large. They are compatible with most other peaceful reef inhabitants.

In the aquarium, the McCosker Flasher Wrasse will readily accept a varied diet of high-quality marine flake food, pellet food, frozen mysis shrimp, and enriched brine shrimp. Offering multiple small feedings throughout the day is beneficial due to their active nature. They typically reach a maximum size of around 3 inches. Originating from the Indo-Pacific region, they are considered a beginner-level fish for the marine aquarium hobby.
