Description

The Midnight Angelfish, *Centropyge nox*, is a striking and elegant dwarf angelfish species native to the Atlantic Ocean. Its common name perfectly describes its appearance, as it boasts a deep, velvety black coloration that covers its entire body, creating a sophisticated and minimalist aesthetic in the marine aquarium. This uniform dark hue makes it a captivating contrast against vibrant corals and other colorful reef inhabitants.

A minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended for the Midnight Angelfish, providing ample space for swimming and establishing territory. While generally considered an intermediate-level fish for care, its peaceful nature makes it a good candidate for a community reef aquarium with other non-aggressive species. Like other dwarf angelfish, it may occasionally nip at certain stony or soft corals, so careful observation is advised when introducing it to a reef tank.

In the aquarium, the Midnight Angelfish will thrive on a varied diet consisting of high-quality marine flake and pellet foods, as well as frozen preparations such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and angelfish-specific formulas containing spirulina or marine algae. Offering a diverse diet is crucial for maintaining its health and vibrant coloration. They typically reach a maximum size of around 3.5 inches in captivity. Providing plenty of live rock with hiding places will help this angelfish feel secure and reduce stress.
