The Orange Banded Amblygobius decussatus Goby, also known as the Orange Banded Goby or Decussatus Goby, is a peaceful and attractive addition to the home aquarium. Its elongated body is adorned with striking orange bands that run vertically along its sides, contrasting beautifully with its white or pale background color.
A minimum tank size of 20 gallons is recommended for a single specimen, with larger tanks preferred for housing multiple gobies or in a community setting. Provide a sandy substrate as these gobies are natural burrowers and will appreciate the ability to create their own homes. Live rock and other decorations should be included to offer hiding places and a sense of security. The Orange Banded Goby is generally considered reef safe and will not typically bother corals or other invertebrates.
In the wild, these gobies are primarily carnivorous, feeding on small invertebrates and crustaceans. In the aquarium, they should be offered a varied diet of high-quality frozen and live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and enriched frozen preparations. They may also accept small sinking pellets or flakes once accustomed to them.
Orange Banded Gobies typically reach a size of about 4-5 inches in the home aquarium. They are not known to be easily bred in captivity, and there are no readily apparent visual differences between males and females. They are generally peaceful towards other fish, but may exhibit territorial behavior towards conspecifics or other similar-looking gobies, especially in smaller tanks.
