Description

The Pink Smith Damselfish is a vibrant reef addition, displaying a bright pinkish-violet body with subtle blue hues along its fins. Active and resilient, this small fish adds movement and color to any saltwater aquarium. Its adaptability and bold personality make it a great choice for hobbyists looking for a durable, eye-catching species that thrives in community and reef setups alike.

Care Requirements

The Pink Smith Damselfish (Pomacentrus smithi) is a hardy and active saltwater species that adapts well to most home reef setups. A tank size of at least 30 gallons is recommended to give it space to swim and establish a small territory. Provide plenty of live rock, caves, and crevices for hiding and security—this helps reduce stress and aggression.

They thrive in stable reef conditions with a temperature between 75–78°F, salinity of 1.020–1.025, and a pH of 8.1–8.4. Moderate water movement and good filtration will help maintain oxygen levels and overall water quality. While generally peaceful when young, adult Pink Smith Damselfish can become territorial, especially toward other small, similarly shaped fish. Keeping them with larger or more assertive tankmates usually prevents problems. They are reef safe and will not bother corals or invertebrates.

Diet & Feeding

Pink Smith Damselfish are omnivores with a varied diet in the wild that includes small crustaceans, plankton, and algae. In captivity, they do best on a mix of meaty and plant-based foods. Offer a rotation of frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, marine pellets, and flakes enriched with spirulina or algae.

Feed small portions two to three times per day rather than one large meal. Regular feedings keep their energy levels up and their vibrant coloration bright. Providing a bit of natural algae growth in the tank is also beneficial, as they enjoy grazing throughout the day.
