The Scribbled Angelfish, *Chaetodontoplus duboulayi*, is a captivating and sought-after angelfish species known for its intricate and unique markings. Its body is typically a vibrant yellow or orange, adorned with a network of irregular blue or purple lines and scribbles that become more pronounced with age. The fins are often edged in blue, adding to its striking appearance.
A minimum tank size of 125 gallons is recommended for the Scribbled Angelfish to provide ample swimming space and a stable environment. A well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding places is essential for its well-being. While generally considered more reef-safe than some larger angelfish species, there is still a risk of it nipping at stony and soft corals, as well as clam mantles. Therefore, it is best suited for a FOWLR (Fish Only With Live Rock) system or a very carefully monitored reef tank.
Like other angelfish, the Scribbled Angelfish is a protogynous hermaphrodite, meaning all individuals are born female and can transition to male later in life. Breeding in captivity is extremely challenging. There are no easily distinguishable external differences between males and females.
The Scribbled Angelfish is an omnivore and requires a varied diet to maintain its health and vibrant coloration. Offer a mix of high-quality angelfish preparations, marine algae, Spirulina, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods. Providing a diet rich in marine algae is particularly important for their digestive health.
