Description

The Striated Bristletooth Tang (Ctenochaetus striatus) is a hardworking film-algae and detritus grazer that keeps rockwork spotless while staying reef-safe. Subtle horizontal striping and a perpetual “busy” personality add motion without stealing the show. Provide a mature system with ample live rock for grazing, moderate–strong flow, and open swimming room; a 75–100+ gallon tank is recommended. Like all Ctenochaetus, it uses fine bristle teeth to rasp biofilm—supplement daily with nori/seaweed, spirulina pellets, and enriched frozen foods, with occasional meaty treats. Generally peaceful, this tang may posture with similar-shaped herbivores; avoid mixing with other bristletooth or Zebrasoma in smaller systems. Ideal for reefers seeking a utilitarian algae control fish that plays nicely with corals and inverts.
