The Watanabei Angelfish, also known as the Watanabei Angelfish or Watanabe’s Angelfish, is a stunning and relatively peaceful dwarf angelfish. Males display a beautiful blue body with horizontal black stripes and a yellow tail, while females are a vibrant yellow with similar black stripes.
A minimum of a 70-gallon tank with ample live rock for grazing and plenty of hiding places is recommended to provide a suitable environment. While generally considered more reef-safe than many other angelfish species, there is still a possibility they may nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles, especially if not well-fed.
This species is hermaphroditic, with all individuals starting as females and the dominant fish in a group transitioning to male. Breeding in an aquarium is very difficult. The Watanabei Angelfish requires a varied diet including Spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, and mysis or frozen shrimp. They can reach a size of approximately 4 inches in an aquarium.
