Description

The Whip Fin Fairy Wrasse is a striking and relatively uncommon species prized for its elongated, filament-like fin extensions and vivid coloration. Native to the waters of Indonesia, males boast brilliant shades of red and orange with long, flowing dorsal fin rays that appear to “whip” through the water—an eye-catching feature that sets them apart from other fairy wrasses.

This peaceful and reef-safe wrasse is best housed in a well-established aquarium of at least 70–90 gallons with plenty of rockwork for hiding and open swimming space. Like other members of the Cirrhilabrus genus, the Whip Fin Fairy Wrasse is an avid jumper, so a secure, tight-fitting lid is necessary.

Ideal for reef tanks, this species does not harm corals or ornamental invertebrates and gets along well with other peaceful tankmates. However, males can become territorial with others of the same species, so it’s best to keep only one male per tank or maintain a harem with several females.

A balanced carnivorous diet including enriched mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes will support its health, energy, and stunning coloration.
